Neal在本剧中被塑造成一个对犯罪学「万事精通」的形象－－他能伪造各种证件和文书，他只看一眼就能快速识别钱币上的纹路，他轻而易举就能逃出戒备森严的一级监狱。从表面上来看，Neal是个温文尔雅，说话和颜悦色，并且十分健谈的人。所有人都认为他是个天才，绝不可能被Peter抓住。而Peter在本剧中被塑造成一个专注、热心、努力工作、有奉献精神的正派形象。他也是个天才，他的天赋主要表现在观察力和判断力上。他能洞悉罪犯的一切手段，并提前预测到他们的想法和行动。但是可怜的Peter唯独有一件事怎么也想不明白－－该买什么结婚周年礼物送给妻子呢？ [
